The Club was founded in 1985 by Derick Hewitt, in the early years the club was run by Celmac Works. It was soon over grown with weeds and it was decided to hand over the pond to the current club, these days the club is run by a strong management committee.
The pond was on the site where Wm Morrison’s Supermarkets PLC had been given planning permission to build a new superstore, part of the agreement for the plans to get permission was that they would have to build a new pond somewhere on site.
Celmac angling club called on the experience of one of its members (Ian Bayley) to oversee the project and liaise between the architects, Morrison’s, the building contractors, the Environmental Agency and the club. Ian took on the task and carried it right through to the end in a thoroughly professional manner and the New Pond was handed over to the club in November 2004.
Our new pond offers 16 fishing platforms which are all accessible to disabled anglers and disabled toilet facilities, the fish stock (approx 6500) that had been looked after by the Environmental Agency were introduced to their new habitat in the middle of November and a further 350 (250 mixed carp, 100 skimmers) fish were introduce in to the pond.
We now have a lovely new pond and facilities that can accommodate all strengths of angler from the beginner to the experienced match angler.
